After my healing, I was not only amazed by Jesus’ works but intrigued. Soon I left the household of Levi to follow this man who had saved me from death. Eventually I caught up to the crowds that had been following him for days, and I ended up on the Sea of Tiberias, which was on the other side of the Sea of Galilee. Pushing myself toward the front (at least the best I could), I saw Jesus climb up toward the mountains. Eagerly following him, I found myself surrounded by thousands of people who shared tales about how many people he had healed and other miracles. This man had to be more than just a man- he was divine.
During this trip, the Passover came at hand. Thousands were sitting and listening to Jesus preach, but were also presented with the dilemma of celebrating this holiday. Jesus then asked one of his disciples (Phillip I believe?) “where are we to buy bread to feed these people?” Mumbling a response I couldn’t hear, another disciple brought a young boy who had five barley loaves and two fish. Jesus then instructed everyone to sit down. At first I didn’t understand. How could five barley loaves and a pair of fish feed all these people? Were we going to fast instead?
He then instructed them to start passing out the bread and fish to those in the front, and more disciples started passing food out toward the middle and last rows. Now I was even more confused, how have they not run out of food by now? Eventually the disciples got to everyone- I even had my bread and fish to eat. And later I saw that there were baskets for the disciples themselves to eat. No one could have bought all this food and brought it back so quickly. This man multiplied food and fed everyone!
Again, I sat in a confused but awed state. How could this man do these miracles? He just fed over 5 thousand people with a basket of 5 loaves of bread and two fish. That’s it. No one saw him do any fancy tricks or pull bread out of his robe. It was just provided when the need came. Even more, no one questioned this miracle. The people around me were impressed but didn’t ask questions. Then I saw Jesus break the bread and thank God for providing the food. Was this God empowering this man to perform multiple miracles all at once? I didn’t have all the answers, but this was definitely something worth pursuing- I had to know who this man really was.
good job!
