Luke 7

Something interesting happened today. I woke up dead. Well, not dead. I was dead, but then I woke up… from being dead. To be clear, I was dead, but now I am no longer dead.

Okay, now anyway, I heard a voice and it said, “Young man, I say to you, arise,” and that is when I woke up. I was really confused. I am not what you call a morning person. I tend to be groggy and irritable when I first get up. This time was not much different. I woke up and it was dark, so I got angry and started yelling some things about how late it is and people are trying to sleep. Then someone opened the coffin and I saw it was bright out. That made me feel a little embarrassed. Then I saw my mother. That was worse. I had just said some words she may not have known were a part of my vocabulary. She was upset. I made her cry. Mother ran toward the coffin. I thought she was going to make sure I got to use it since it had already been bought, and I was already lying in it. I still do not know if I was right or not in my thinking this. She surprised me by hugging me, but she would not let go, and she started to hold on tighter and tighter. She never did that before so I have a feeling she intended to smother me, but then she looked up at the guy that had opened the coffin.

The man just stood there where he had been, right at the end of my wood box. He was smiling. I guess he thought the irony of me being killed by my mother while in a coffin was humorous. Then mother let go of me and locked him in her death grip. She was crying and thanking him. I heard someone in the crowd (there was a crowd by now because, mother was causing a scene) say something about the man being a carpenter. I guess he built my coffin and mother was thanking him for his excellent work.

It was not until later in the day that I learned what actually happened. Apparently, the man was a religious leader that has been gaining some attention as of late. His name is Jesus, and I was right, he is a carpenter. But he also woke me up from death. All of the people in the town are rejoicing about having a great prophet here. Nothing ever happens around here.
