Sarah-What One Hears About Jesus

Shalom! Guess what I heard! I heard from Zack, who heard from his dad, who heard from his sister, who heard from her husband, who heard from his boss, who heard from a centurion, who heard from a friend, who heard from a synagogue leader, who heard from another synagogue leader that Jesus was going to be betrayed by one of his own disciples! I asked Zack what else happened but he did not know the whole story. I went to the house of the man, whose name was Malachi, who let Jesus eat at his house during Passover. I asked him to share with me what exactly happened that day. He told me that he was at the city with a jag of water to give to some of the animals nearby. Just then, some of the disciples came to him and told him that the Teacher said, “My appointed time is near. I am going to celebrate the Passover with my disciples at your house.” Malachi agreed to let them stay. The disciples then set up the larger upper room of his house, which was all furnished, and made the preparations. When this was all finished, Jesus walked into his house and went upstairs. While Jesus and his disciples were there, Malachi stayed downstairs, but he was able to hear everything that was going on upstairs, seeing that his house is not very big. He heard Jesus talking to the disciples. Jesus said, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer.” I asked Malachi how Jesus knew whether he was going to suffer or not. I then realized that he was able to prophesize the future, as well as his own future. Malachi went on to say that Jesus said that someone would betray him. Judas spoke up saying, “Surely not I, Rabbi.” Jesus knew it was him and said so. Judas walked downstairs and out the door. Then Jesus broke the bread saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.” Then Jesus took the cup saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for many. I tell you the truth, I will not drink again of the vine until that day when I drink it anew in the kingdom of God. They all sung a hymn then went off to the Mount of Olives. I just sat there and pondered for a moment. Malachi interrupted my pondering by saying that Jesus had made another prediction. He knew that Simon Peter would betray him when the rooster crowed. I gave my thanks to Malachi and as I walked out, I wondered whether I would betray Jesus. I went down the dusty road and pondered.
