It's been a few days since I last wrote in here. A lot has happened. Unbelievable stuff. Amazing things keep happening wherever this Jesus goes. After the incident at the market, I made it my mission to gather as much information as I possibly could about Jesus. It wasn't too hard, as most of Capernaum was gossiping up a storm about the Centurion's servant being healed. The servant himself testified about Jesus' power. This is what I was able to determine: Jesus was a simple man, a carpenter from Nazareth. No one knew quite who he was beyond that, some called him a prophet, others said he was Moses or Elijah. I didn't much care what his official title was, I just knew that he was teaching a new way of life and that he just might have the answers that I was looking for. When I talked to my parents about the whole thing, they weren't too keen on it. He was just another radical, they said. But I knew he wasn't. There was something different about this Jesus. There had to be.
This morning, my six year old brother, Malachi, and I went to go hear Jesus preach a sermon just outside of our town. I wanted more answers. Malachi just wanted to tag along with me. Even though my mother didn't approve, she let us go and was kind enough to pack us a lunch: five loaves of bread and two fish.
I was shocked at the amount of people who were there to listen to Jesus. I knew people in my little town had been gossiping about him, but there were people who had walked miles just to hear him teach.
The message was phenomenal. He spoke in such a commanding yet gentle way, unlike anything I've ever heard.
After his lesson, everyone was starving. It went on for hours and everyone was captivated, but still, it was lunch time. Out of thousands of people, it appeared like my brother and I were the only ones who prepared for lunch. My brother, ever the sharer he was, boldly walked up to Jesus and offered him our measly lunch. I was in disbelief. How could that possibly help? Then the unexpected happened. Jesus started to bless the food and passed it around. Miraculously, there seemed to be enough for everyone to go around. God must be in this man. How else could my brother's lunch have fed 5000 people?
very creative!
